Michigan Expanded EITC

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  1. Check your address.
If you've moved since filing your 2022 return, update your address through Treasury's IIT eServices by February 1.
  2. Do NOT file an amended MI return.
The additional EITC funds will be issued via a mailed paper check.
  3. File your 2023 tax returns.
Claim the EITC on your 2023 federal and state returns with the help of your local free tax prep provider.
  4. Ensure you filed your 2022 tax returns.
If you didn't file last year, connect with your local free tax prep provider.

There are some updates to EITC and you may be entitled to the newly expanded Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit.

In February, the Lowering MI Costs Plan goes into effect, permanently increasing the Michigan EITC from 6% to 30%. If you filed and received the 6% Michigan EITC last year, you are entitled to a supplemental check from the Michigan Department of Treasury!

You do NOT need to file an amended Michigan 2022 tax return to get this credit. All you need to do is verify your address. If you have moved since filing your 2022 tax return, update your address information on IIT eServices by February 1 to ensure your check is mailed to the correct address.
