Heat and Utility Assistance

What Is It? 

The Heat and Utility Assistance Program provides financial assistance for deliverable fuels (propane, fuel oil, and firewood) and metered utilities (electricity and natural gas).

NEMCSA can assist you in applying for energy assistance through our partnership with the Michigan department of Health and Human Services.

Am I Eligible?

You are eligible if:

  • You live within one of our service counties (listed above)
  • Your utility or heating fuel is:
    • Past Due / In threat of disconnection / Disconnected (for electricity or natural gas)
      - OR -
    • Your residential propane/fuel oil tank is at or below 25%
      - OR -
    • Less than a 30 day supply of firewood
  • Eligibility is also based on your monthly income as well as any cash assets (see income guidelines):
