Babies are born ready to learn. NEMCSA Early Head Start helps build the foundation for school readiness by supporting close, positive relationships with parents, caregivers, extended family, and community. We offer no-cost full-year services to children birth to three, pregnant women and their families; serving over 320 children in twelve northern Michigan counties: Alcona, Alpena, Arenac, Bay, Cheboygan, Crawford, Iosco, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego, and Presque Isle.

Home-Based services are provided through weekly home visits to each enrolled child and family.  The home visitor provides child-focused visits that promote the parents’ ability to support the child’s development through fun and educational activities. Twice per month, the program offers opportunities for parents and children to come together as a group for learning, discussion, and social activity at one of the EHS sites located in each county. Nutritious snacks are always served.

NEMCSA Early Head Start engages families; individually, in groups, and as leaders in the program. This strengthens family environments in order to maintain consistent daily routines, create experience-rich environments for children, promote language and literacy in the home, and utilize positive guidance and discipline.

In addition, we support the completion of general health and wellness screenings and exams for all children served by our program.
