Two preschool children eating lunch

Children who are hungry and/or with poor diets have a hard time focusing on learning.  In Head Start, preschoolers are served nutritionally balanced meals and snacks based upon USDA and CACFP guidelines at no cost to families; assuring students’ bodies and brains are well-nourished and ready-to-learn. Accommodations for children with special dietary requirements are made as needed, and Registered Dieticians are available to all Head Start families to provide answers to questions and information on nutrition. We believe every part of a child’s day – even mealtime – is an opportunity for learning, so meals and snacks are served “family-style” to encourage language, social, and independence skills.
