Caregiver Corners

Region 9 Area Agency on Aging partnered with 29 rural libraries (see partnering counties below) to provide family caregivers with resources, tools, and information. Items purchased for the libraries included caregiver books, dementia toolkits, touch screen computers, literature stands, dementia DVD sets, and cleaning and printing stipends. The goal was to improve the quality of life for those with dementia by educating and supporting their caregivers by providing increased access to reliable information, reducing caregiver stress, and helping minimize caregiver burnout by providing a break for caregivers, as their care recipient books or the environment in the library. The library staff will become better informed on how to communicate and interact with people living with dementia.
