NEMCSA Honored at 2026 Michigan Community Action Legislative Day
Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency (NEMCSA) was proud to participate in the 2026 Michigan Community Action Legislative Day and Community Action Awards, held May 20, 2026. The event brought together agencies from across the state to highlight the impact of Community Action and celebrate individuals who are making a meaningful difference in their communities.
The program featured a statewide gathering of Community Action Agencies, recognition of legislative leaders, and the presentation of Community Action Awards honoring outstanding clients and volunteers whose stories reflect resilience, service, and community impact. NEMCSA was especially proud to see several individuals affiliated with the agency recognized at the state level.
Client Achievement Awards
Danae Tucker (NEMCSA)
Danae Tucker was recognized for her remarkable progress toward stability and independence. After engaging in NEMCSA programs including Early Head Start, Head Start, and the BOSS Program, she made significant strides in employment, housing, and family wellbeing. With support from NEMCSA, Danae improved her living conditions through the Weatherization Program and created a safer, more stable home environment for her children. Her journey represents resilience, personal accountability, and a strong commitment to long-term success.
Amanda Rhoades (NEMCSA)
Amanda Rhoades was honored for her dedication and perseverance through the BOSS Program. With one-on-one mentoring and support, Amanda achieved employment with increased income and earned certifications in emotional and financial resiliency. Her growth reflects the power of encouragement, determination, and access to supportive services. Amanda’s story highlights how belief and guidance can help individuals overcome barriers and achieve their goals.
Volunteer Recognition
Chuck Corwin (NEMCSA & NMCAA)
Chuck Corwin was recognized for his extraordinary commitment to community service spanning more than a decade. As a retired nurse, Chuck has dedicated thousands of hours to supporting older adults and strengthening communities across northern Michigan. He has served on multiple boards, participated in the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and contributed as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman and health educator. His lasting impact demonstrates a deep commitment to helping others thrive and advocating for vulnerable populations.
