Developmental Disabilities
Developmental disabilities are a group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. About one in six children in the U.S. have one or more developmental disabilities or other developmental delays. Most developmental disabilities begin before a baby is born, but some can happen after birth because of injury, infection, or other factors.
Examples of developmental disabilities include:
- autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
- Behavior disorders
- Intellectual disability (ID)
- Brain injury
- Cerebral palsy (CP)
- Down syndrome
- Fetal alcohol syndrome
- Spina bifida
